Dr. Biju Chacko

            Dr. Biju Chacko Completed his B.V.Sc & A. H and M.V.Sc in Animal Nutrition from the College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Mannuthy in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Recipient of gold medal for M.V.Sc, scoring the highest mark (OGPA) among M.V.Sc students belonging to all disciplines. He worked as Veterinary Surgeon in Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Kerala, for 6 ½ years, after which joined as Assistant Professor in Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (KVASU), where he had been working for the last 12 years. Author of 36 research articles, in refereed journals; of which 24 are first author papers, 9 book chapters; 29 popular articles in various farm magazines in Malayalam like Deepika, Karshakan, Kerala Karshakan etc. and presented 18 conference papers, the most important being the theme paper entitled, “Feeding strategies for optimising milk production in Kerala” in 2011. Did 10 radio talks through All India Radio and has also done several question answer sessions for farmers through radio. Guided four M.V.Sc students, as Major Guide towards Master’s degree. Currently guiding four M.V.Sc students, as Major Guide. 

           Associated with seven different plan projects as Prinicipal Investigator/ Co-Principal Investigator/ Co-ordinator, the most notable among them being, “Aaralam livestock based tribal resettlement project”, having a total outlay of 1.61 crores, funded by Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes Dept., Govt. of Kerala, in which he was Co-Principal Investigator. He was also the Co-ordinator of the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) titled, “Multi enterprise farm models for addressing the agrarian crisis of Wayanad District of Kerala”, funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), with a total outlay of 6.23 crores. He has been associated with several project preparation and group discussion sessions organised by NGO’s such as Brahmagiri Development Society, M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and different local bodies in Kerala. He is also a visiting faculty of State Bank of Travancore Rural Training Institute, Puthoorvayal, Kalpetta; Livestock Management Training Centre (LMTC), Mundayad, Kannur and also of Kudumbasree in the several districts of Kerala. Taken nearly 200 odd classes for farmers, Kudumbasree workers and entrepreneurs. Provided advisory services to more than 5000 farmers over telephone, field visit and also in person.
