Dr. N. Venkatachalapathy

Prof. N. Venkatachalapathy is the Head of the Department of Food Engineering and Chairman of the Working Group of the Centre for Excellence in Grain Science at the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur, INDIA. He received his Bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering and his Master degree in Post-Harvest Technology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, INDIA. He received his PhD degree from Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram, INDIA. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and Society of Food Engineering. He is also a Life Member of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) and Administrative Staff College of India. He is a recipient of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam National Award for teaching in the year 2017. The primary focus of his recent research work has been directed towards addressing the problems related to primary processing at the farm level for the betterment of farmers. This includes development of gadgets for increasing the income level of farmers and processors at farm level. He is having a patent against his name for integrated small onion root cutter and peeling machine. Apart from this, his research focus is on novel food processing technologies for preservation of food. He has published more than 35 papers in international and national peer-reviewed journals and more than 30 papers in national and international conferences. He has edited one book on Brown Rice and contributed chapters in many books. He is actively participating in international confernces related to food science and technology and reviewer for many international journals.
