 ABSTRACT

Twelve cultivars of Vicia faba were analysed in order to visualize the chromosomal divergence in mitotic metaphase during the course of present investigation. Results have shown that some remarkable variations exist at the intraspecific level due to genetic divergence within the gene pool of Vicia faba. Chromosomal studies provide foundation upon which systematic conclusions are based and without exploitation of its full potential a meaningful hypothesis of evolution con not possible be created.

Key words: Chromosomal divergence, Mitotic metaphase, Evolutionary pattern, Vicia faba
