ABSTRACT
Investigations on the efficacy of new insecticide molecules against onion thrips, Thrips tabaci were carried out at Babbur farm, ZAHRS, Hiriyur during kharif and rabi 2014-2015. The least number of thrips was recorded in acetamiprid 20 SP treatment plots with maximum (96.33) per cent reduction in thrips population, followed by imidacloprid 17.8% SL (92.81%), fipronil 5% SC (93.63%) and thiamethoxam 25% WG (93.58%) compared to standard check, dimethoate 30 EC which recorded 86.63%. Maximum thrips population was recorded in NSKE 5%treatment with the least per cent reduction of 67.61 %. Though, the standard check dimethoate 30 EC was superior to untreated check, it was inferior than acetamiprid 20 SP, imidacloprid 17.8% SL, thiamethoxam 25% WG and fipronil 5% SC. With respect to cost effectiveness of various insecticides, acetamaprid 20 SP recorded the highest B:C ratio (2.01) followed by imidacloprid 17.8% SL (1.77), thiamethoxam 25% WG (1.62) and fipronil 5% SC (1.54).
