Anti-diabetic Activity of Mango (Mangifera indica)

 ABSTRACT

Mangoes (Mangifera indica) belong to genus Mangifera and family Anacardiaceae. Mangoes (Mangifera indica) consist of about 30 species of tropical fruiting trees. It is cultivated on an area of approximately 3.7 million in the worldwide and it is on the second position as a tropical crop, in terms of production second to bananas. According to Ayurveda and different herbal books and journals mango tree has many medicinal properties in different parts of the tree. Mango possesses anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory properties. Various effects like antibacterial, anti-fungal, anthelmintic, anti- parasitic, anticancer, anti HIV, anti boneresorption, antispasmodic, antipyretic, antidiarrheal, immunomodulation, hypolipidemic, anti- microbial, hepatoprotective, gastro protective have also been studied by different scholars and scientists. In this review article we have studied about anti-diabetic activity of Mango stems-bark, leaves and seeds.
